Game 79: LA Clippers vs Houston Rockets

Wednesday, April 3 at 7:30 PM

Last season: Series split 2-2

The LA Clippers begin the month at home against the Houston Rockets, which could’ve been last season’s champion had it not been for Chris Paul‘s injury in Game 5.

With a late lead, Paul fell and injured his hamstring in an all-too-familiar fashion. Clippers fans around the globe who had hopes that the Warriors would be toppled by the former face of their franchise let out an immense sigh, likely in unison, as they knew Paul was done.

The Warriors won the final two games of the series, and all at once, Paul haters realized that their criticisms may have been misguided.

Now though, Paul is back with the Rockets, and Harden and Clint Capela are returning as well. Surprisingly, the Clippers split the season series with the West’s best last season, even with the team in the shape they were in.

At full strength, the Clippers certainly have a chance against Houston. Patrick Beverley and Avery Bradley match up very well with Paul and Harden, and the rest of the team’s defense should suffice against the Rockets’ lesser pieces.

It’ll be interesting to see how this series goes next season, especially this late in the year. We don’t know exactly which Rockets team we’ll be seeing at this point, given they may be locked into a playoff spot and would rather not risk injury. If they are still seeking a secure position, expect a battle, but one in which the Clippers will still claim victory.
