Former LA Clippers Forward Corey Maggette named BIG3 MVP

Just one year after suffering a season-ending injury, former LA Clippers forward Corey Maggette has been named the BIG3 MVP.

During his first game of the BIG3’s inaugural season last summer, former LA Clippers forward Corey Maggette went down with an injury that kept him out for the entirety of the season. Now, just over a year later, Maggette has been named MVP of the BIG3 League.

With Power, the 38-year-old Maggette averaged 16.9 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

Power will appear in the BIG3 Finals this Friday night against 3’s Company, led by Baron Davis and DerMarr Johnson. Including Maggette, Power is supported by former Clippers Cuttino Mobley, Glen Davis, Quentin Richardson, and Ryan Gomes.

It’s been a big month for Maggette — not only is he keeping his stellar play up in the BIG3 league, but he may soon be in line to replace former Clippers TV analyst Bruce Bowen.

Ever since Bowen was fired over his comments about Kawhi Leonard, rumors have been circling about potential replacements for the position. Former analyst Mike Smith’s name has been floated a few times by fans on Twitter, though it’s unlikely the Clippers would return him to the booth.

Yesterday, we got our first report including an actual name that could fill the position — Ryan Hollins, a center that played for the Clippers for two seasons from 2012-2014. He’s currently an analyst for ESPN, and has background knowledge about the Clippers organization, unlike Bowen.

Still though, it seems like Maggette is the front runner for the position. He’s been an analyst for Fox Sports West and Prime Ticket since 2014, has extensive knowledge about the team, and has long been a fan favorite. What’s more, Maggette has already called his first NBA game with the LA Clippers and Ralph Lawler.

In February, Bowen was absent from a broadcast, and Maggette filled in on the call. He and Lawler had great chemistry, and fans seemed to enjoy what he brought to the booth.

Regardless of the outcome, it’s nice knowing that we can still root for Maggette on and off the court.
