LA Clippers: Ryan Hollins among candidates for TV analyst position

Former LA Clippers center Ryan Hollins is reportedly a candidate to replace Bruce Bowen as TV Analyst.

According to the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand (via Twitter), Ryan Hollins is reportedly one of the candidates to replace the recently-fired Bruce Bowen as TV Analyst for the LA Clippers.

Hollins is currently an analyst for ESPN, though fans will know him better for his time on the court.   A UCLA grad, Hollins was selected in the second round of the 2006 NBA Draft. After bouncing around the league for a few seasons, Hollins wound up with the LA Clippers at the beginning of the 2012-2013 NBA season.

During his two seasons with the team, Hollins served as a backup to DeAndre Jordan and Ronny Turiaf, averaging a combined 9.5 minutes and 2.9 points per game.

Hollins finished his NBA playing career in 2016 with the Memphis Grizzlies, and after a year overseas, he joined ESPN as a basketball analyst.

Unlike Bowen, Hollins does have prior experience with the LA Clippers, and would likely provide better insight about the team. While Bowen eventually caught on, it took him a while to adjust to the roster and history.

It’s unknown where Hollins stands in regards to other potential candidates for Bowen’s old position. The general consensus seems to believe that Corey Maggette is the favorite, though it’s all speculation at this point.

Bowen was let go from the LA Clippers early last week because of comments he made about Toronto Raptors forward Kawhi Leonard in June. At the time, Leonard’s situation was among the hottest in sports, and seemingly everyone involved was giving their take. Bowen was extremely critical of the way Leonard had handled himself over the course of the NBA season, and ultimately sided with the Spurs organization on the issue.

The Clippers chose to fire Bowen as his comments did not line up with their feelings towards Leonard. While the move may have seemed strange at first, the Clippers believe that given their odds to land Leonard next summer, they must take any precaution necessary to help them in their pursuit.
