10 Fun Facts about the Los Angeles Clippers
7.) Rookie(s) of the Year(s)
While seven first overall picks spent time as Clippers, even more winners of the NBA Rookie of the Year award have spent time on the team. These 10 players are Sidney Wicks, Bob McAdoo, Ernie DiGregorio, Jamaal Wilkes, Adrian Dantley, Terry Cummings, Mark Jackson, Elton Brand, Chris Paul, and Blake Griffin. Its an interesting occurrence. Perhaps the franchise would be in a better place if it were to attract MVP winners rather than Rookie of the Year Winners.
8.) The Sixth Man Oddity
In the 2017-2018, Clippers shooting guard Lou Williams won the Sixth Man of the Year award. Its nice for Lou to get recognition, but it also brought the spot light to LAC, who wasn’t a big talking point since trading away Chris Paul and Blake Griffin. With Sweet Lou winning the award, he’s kept a trend from the past few seasons alive. Starting in the 2009-2010 season when Jamal Crawford won his first Sixth Man award, seven of the last nine Sixth Man awards have gone to players who played for the Clippers at one point in their career. Jamal Crawford won in 2009-2010, 2013-2014, and 2015-2016. Lou Williams won in 2014-2015, and 2017-2018. Lamar Odom and Eric Gordon each have one in 2010-2011 and 2016-2017 respectively. Crawford had two as a Clipper and three so far in his career. If you ask me, they should rename it to the Jamal Crawford award once he retires.
Bonus fact: Jamal Crawford has the most four point plays in NBA history. A very entertaining player and an elite scorer. You have to love J Crossover.
