Los Angeles Clippers: Blake Griffin Throws Shade at Franchise

Although the Blake Griffin trade happened nearly six months ago, the former No. 1 overall pick is still finding ways to show his displeasure with the Los Angeles Clippers organization.

On July 18, who would have guessed we’d be talking about Blake Griffin? I for sure didn’t. On Jan. 29, Blake Griffin was traded from the Los Angeles Clippers to the Detroit Pistons. The deal was shocking, as LA had resigned him to a five-year deal worth $173 million in the offseason.

Many criticized the Clippers for the deal, as they thought it was a dirty move, trading away a player they based their whole team around. Everyone remembered the lavish presentation they gave Griffin in order to convince him to stay. They told him he’d retire an LA Clipper, and months later, traded him to Detroit.

Well, it appears as if he’s still salty about the trade. On Wednesday morning, Griffin tweeted this:

It’s a GIF of Griffin drinking a cup of tea, no big deal, right? Well, there’s definitely more behind it than just that.

The NBA world was sent through a spiral on Wednesday as Kawhi Leonard was traded to the Toronto Raptors. In the deal, the Raptors sent DeMar DeRozan to San Antonio. DeRozan, who has spent his entire career with Toronto, was a fan favorite. He loved Toronto, and the city loved him back. Recently he signed an extension with them, and it appeared as if he was going to spend the rest of his career with Toronto. Earlier in the week, the Raptors even told DeRozan he wouldn’t be traded. Then this happens.

Many NBA players voiced their opinions on the trade via Twitter, including Lou Williams.

A lot of NBA players are taking it to heart with the way Toronto handled things with their franchise player. For Blake Griffin, he could easily relate. He’s obviously still salty about the situation, and by tweeting this, he’s showing it still left an impact on him. This kind of GIF has become well-known over the years. Basically meaning something along the lines of ‘It’s none of my business’ or being sarcastic in a way.

Griffin knew exactly what he was doing here, and so does every NBA fan. It’s all in good fun, as it was a tough business decision that had to be made. Hopefully Blake knows that Clippers fans still love and miss him.
