Clippers: Three storylines to watch for Summer League versus Wizards
Trade buddies
The Wizards and Clippers had a bit more of a direct interaction this summer when the two franchises agreed on a trade that sent Marcin Gortat west while Austin Rivers went to the nation’s capital.
This trade made sense for both parties as Washington was in need of a backup scoring guard while the Clippers needed a stop gap center due to DeAndre Jordan’s departure.
Gortat and John Wall had begun to feud and although he was an expiring contract, there was little doubt he would remain in Washington this season. Rivers, who opted into the last year of his deal, was a surprise to see traded after being a member of Los Angeles for the past four seasons.
Mike Scott
Although not a direct connection due to interaction, the Clippers did sign forward Mike Scott this summer. Scott played for the Wizards last season in a backup role, where he averaged 8.8 points on 52.7% shooting and 3.3 rebounds in 18.5 minutes per game.
Scott will likely play both the backup forward positions for the Clippers after agreeing to a one year deal.
