According to Yahoo Sports’ Shams Charania, top executives from the LA Clippers have flown to Dallas today to meet free agent forward Anthony Tolliver.

Free Agency has officially begun, and it appears the LA Clippers have started to get in motion. According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, top executives from the team have flown down to meet forward Anthony Tolliver at his Dallas home.

Tolliver, 33, has played both forward positions throughout his 10-year career. Standing at 6-8 and weighing in around 240 pounds, Tolliver would take a backup role for the Clippers.

This past season with the Detroit Pistons, Tolliver recorded averages of 8.9 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in just over 22 minutes per game. In addition, he shot a career-best 43.6% from three-point range on 4.6 attempts per game.

Best suited as a 3-and-D player, Tolliver would fill a hole on both sides of the floor. Assuming he earns similar minutes, he could come off the bench for either Tobias Harris or Danilo Gallinari. More importantly, he’d be an upgrade at either position over Wesley Johnson and Sam Dekker, who have both failed to live up to expectations.

Tolliver has potential to be a savvy buy for Los Angeles. He signed a one-year deal with the Pistons last season, earning nearly $3.3 million. Suffice to say, he’d be a valuable player if the Clippers can ink him to an inexpensive, short-term deal. The veteran minimum may not be enough, however probably LA won’t pay more than $4 million per season.

If he does sign in LA, it’ll be interesting to see what becomes of Dekker and Johnson. In any case, one will likely be waived.

Throughout his 10 NBA seasons, Tolliver has made the playoffs just three times, most recently in 2016. He’s earned a reputation as an excellent teammate, and has played with Harris in the past.
