The Los Angeles Clippers extended qualifying offers to Montrezl Harrell and Tyrone Wallace, making them restricted free agents.

On Thursday, June 28th, the Los Angeles Clippers extended qualifying offers to Montrezl Harrell (PF) and Tyrone Wallace (PG). This means on July 1st both Harrell and Wallace become restricted free agents. The Clippers can then match any offer other teams make to either player, in order to re-sign them.

Montrezl Harrell

This past year, Harrell was one of the few consistent bright spots for the Clippers with all the injuries the team endured. He averaged 11 points and 4 rebounds in 17 minutes per game. Harrell shined as a high-motor big man that can switch between the 4 and 5 spot on the floor.

Additionally, despite being undersized at 6’8″, when switched to the center position, Harrell displayed an arsenal of ways he can get a bucket. He excels at finishing near the rim. He can shimmy and cut to the basket. Harrell even has a decent jumper from close to mid-range. He put all of these skills on display against the Houston Rockets back in March. Harrell deserves to get re-signed to the Clippers.

Tyrone Wallace

Tyrone Wallace spent time this year in the G-League with the Agua Caliente Clippers before being called up as a two-way player for the LA Clippers. Across 30 games, Wallace averaged 9.7 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.4 assists in 28.4 minutes per game. He showed flashes of high basketball-IQ and displayed a myriad of skills on both sides of the ball.  Perhaps his best all-around performance came against the Golden State Warriors in January.

According to Keith Smith of RealGM, if Wallace signs the offer, he will return as a two-way player again.

In summation, re-signing Harrell and Wallace would be smart moves for the Clippers. Both players would improve the depth of the roster, and contribute positively to the spirit of the team.

Now, we wait and see what the front office will do with them.
