Losing a guard

The Clippers are also able to shed themselves of a guard in this deal. Austin Rivers was a part of a potential group of eleven guards the Clips could have under contract. With the two rookies taken in the draft seemingly part of the future, it was expected that the Clippers would have to move some guards soon.

This may have just been the first of multiple moves this summer concerning Clipper guards. Rivers moving was a slight surprise with older guards like Patrick Beverley and Milos Teodosic on the roster, but thinning out the depth is necessary.

With this move done, expect more to follow. The next likely big one will involve DeAndre Jordan, who will have to make his decision regarding his player option by June 29th.
