Los Angeles Clippers: Milos Teodosic Accepts Player Option
By Thomas Fenn
Los Angeles Clippers point guard Milos Teodosic has opted in to his $6.3 million player option for 2018-19 season.
According to Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports, the Serbian guard has decided to accept his player option worth $6.3 million. Teodosic inked a 2 year $12.3 million dollar contract before the 2017-2018 season.
Clipper fans hopes of seeing Milos Teodosic playing alongside former teammate in Europe, Patrick Beverley did not come into fruition during the 2017-18 NBA season. This was a result of both point guards being sidelined by injuries for a large portion of the season.
The former Euro-league champion and MVP’s time on the court was severely hampered during his rookie season for the Los Angeles Clippers. A lingering plantar fascia injury limited Teodosic to only 45 games during the season. The Serbian sensation displayed flashes of his world renowned court vision and shooting during his stint. Teodosic posted averages of 9.5 points, 4.6 assists and 2.8 rebounds per game in his rookie season.
Injury concern’s remain for the 31 year old as if healthy, Teodosic would definitely be a welcome addition. Teodosic’s experience would also be an important addition in mentoring the young guards currently present on the team.
There’s also the chance that Milos still isn’t with the team. Rumors have already sprung up that the team and Milos may separate, so he could just be collecting money while not playing with the team.
Backcourt Situation At Hand
The Clippers drafted point guard Shai-Gilgeous Alexander during the 2018 NBA draft. Austin Rivers also opted into his contract for the following year.
As of today, Patrick Beverley, Austin Rivers, Milos Teodosic, Jawun Evans as well as rookie Shai-Gilgeous Alexander are under contract at the point guard position for the Clippers. If the Clippers did decide to waive Teodosic before July 15th they would only have to commit to $2.1 million.
The Clippers currently have nine back court players under contract and with the emphasis geared towards the younger core of the team. We can almost be assured that there will be more roster shakeups are to be expected before the season begins.
