No. 6: March 23, 2018 — Clippers 104, Pacers 109
Lou’s Line: 27 points, 10 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, 2 turnovers
What makes this second Point God instance more impressive than the last, despite Lou recording less assists, comes down to a few things.
First of all, Lou was responsible for more points in this game. Against the Warriors on that previous slide, Williams was responsible for 46 points, or 36% of the team’s score. Against the Pacers in March, Williams scored 27 and assisted for another 21, making him responsible for 48 points in total. That’s just under half of LA’s final tally.
Secondly, Lou’s assist-to-turnover ratio is a bit improved this time around. In the last Point God slide, Williams had 12 assists and three turnovers, making his ratio 4:1. Here, though, Williams had 10 assists and two turnovers — a 5:1 ratio. It’s a slim improvement, but it is an improvement.
Lastly, the stress factor must be considered. Late March is the “clutch time” of the NBA’s regular season, and at the time, the Clippers were fighting for their playoff lives. A win on the road against a strong Pacers team would be a huge confidence booster, and it would come at the best possible time. In addition to that, this game came down to the wire, and both teams needed the win.
While the Clippers didn’t come out on top, Williams gave his all, and his numbers prove worthy of a second Point God appointment.
