Los Angeles Clippers Officially Unveil Draft Day Cap
We’re less than three weeks away from the 2018 NBA Draft, and we’ve now gotten a glimpse at what the Los Angeles Clippers draftees will wear upon selection.
The 2018 NBA Draft is fast approaching, with the event kicking off on June 21. Something that commemorates the uniqueness of each class is the draft cap, which the players put on upon selection by their new teams.
Past caps have been equally simple and bold, and the designs seem to have taken a creative step forward in recent years. Striving away from the basic team colors and logo, more unusual materials have been used more and more.
Take last year’s cap for example, which had a shimmery mesh upper portion and suede brim. In addition, the team logo was boldly presented and embossed on the front. (I used the Sacramento Kings hat because, well, the Clippers didn’t have a first round pick to wear the cap last year).
In 2016, the Clippers selected Brice Johnson in the first round, who wore a rather blandly-designed draft cap. To say it simply, I’m glad they aren’t repeating this design.
The Cap
This year, it appears New Era is spicing things up. The new Clippers draft cap comes in an all-blue look, complete with patches and pins that reference the team’s history. Atop the upper portion, a California license plate reads “GOCLIPS”, and on the side of the hat, four patches appear. One reads “LAC”, another “’84”, another has the Clippers’ circular logo, and the last displays the California state flag.
We’re wondering the same thing you are: Who will don the cap on Draft night? Could it be Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, or perhaps Mitchell Robinson? Or what about Troy Brown Jr., who just had his first workout with the team?
Whoever it is, they’re bound to look good when they walk across the stage in this year’s cap.
