13. LA Clippers: Collin Sexton, PG, Alabama
I’m going to be completely honest: Collin Sexton is my favorite player in this draft and I honestly feel he will retire as a top 10 point guard of all time. That aside, Collin Sexton had a very impressive year at Alabama. He erased a 17 point deficit in an actual game where the Crimson Tide were forced to play three on five due to foul trouble. They lost, but his explosive play and scoring along with his leadership over his two teammates was shown.
His playmaking seems to be people’s biggest fear, but once he gets a taste of the NBA, he will improve, in sure of it. If I had to make a comparison to a NBA player, it would be Gilbert Arenas, minus the guns. Sexton, like Arenas could be one of the best scoring point guards in the league. His sheer athleticism leads to him scoring at the rim often. He isn’t as consistent of a shooter as you may want, but he has the ability to shoot 10/10 from three out of no where. As mentioned, the Gilbert Arenas gun incident is what derailed his career. Had that incident not happened, Arenas may be looked at as one of the best point guards ever. You never know. I see that potential to be a legend in Collin Sexton. For the Clips, Patrick Beverley, Milos Teodosic, and Jawun Evans are our point guards. Evans will probably reach his peak as a backup and Beverley and Teodosic are both aging and are likely not parts of the Clippers plans for future title contention. I think the Clippers should make Sexton their top priority.
