Package 3

Clippers Receive: Kawhi Leonard, Pau Gasol

Spurs Receive: Tobias Harris, DeAndre Jordan, LAC Pick no. 13

The Clippers find a way to move Jordan, while still getting Leonard back in return. The Spurs move Pau Gasol‘s big contract, get Leonard off their hands, and receive Harris as a replacement wing.

This one could work whether Jordan opts-in or out of his deal, so that’s a plus. If he opts-out, Jordan could leave by way of sign-and-trade, giving the Spurs freedom to negotiate his new deal. Jordan also gets the chance to play for an eternal contender, closer to his hometown Houston.

If he opts-in, rather, the Spurs would be getting two expiring contracts to clear an enormous amount of space for a free agent in 2019, which is looking to be one of the most saturated markets of the last decade.

Either way, Jordan could be the piece that gets this deal done.

To replace him, the Clippers could stick with Gasol at center, and draft his eventual replacement with their remaining lottery pick. It’s not entirely ideal, but the Clippers won’t have to give up a large chunk of their future to make this a reality.
