Sam Cassell

Our first candidate is someone who is already a part of the organization. Sam Cassell played in the league for 16 years and jumped right into coaching when his playing career was over. He joined the Wizards in 2009 as part of Flip Saunders staff and was there for five seasons.

During his time with the team, he worked directly with the team’s star point guard, John Wall, who gives Sam credit for his development.

"“Definitely helped me with my jump shot. Just being a mentor, somebody who was a point guard who knew the game very well. It was big.”"

Cassell also built a solid rapport with Clippers players during his four seasons with the team, most notably Austin Rivers, who has improved each season with the team.

Sam seems to have a solid relationship with the players and should already be privy to what plans the front office has, which would be good for continuity’s sake.
