Five DeAndre Jordan trade ideas for the Los Angeles Clippers
Cleveland Cavaliers
Cleveland Cavaliers receive: C DeAndre Jordan, C Boban Marjanovic, 2018 LAC 1st round pick
LA Clippers receive: PG/SG Jordan Clarkson, SG JR Smith, PF Larry Nance Jr, 2018 BKN 1st round pick
This would only happen if the Cavaliers can get a long term commitment from LeBron James. If the King bounces, they should keep their young pieces and picks. If he were to stay, they need to make improvements to their already solid team. One of the Cavaliers’ biggest needs is a defensive presence in the paint, and Tristan Thompson isn’t cutting it. DJ would be what they have been looking for. You may remember the rampant rumors back before the trade deadline that said LAC was in serious trade talks with CLE about DJ, but the Clippers wanted the BKN. If LBJ signs back with his hometown team, they should definitely consider moving the BKN pick.
Along with DJ, Boban Marjanovic would give the Cavs needed size. His defense is suspect for how long he is, but he is nice on the offensive end and provides energy as a fan favorite everywhere he goes.
Jordan Clarkson is a good, young, piece coming off of a good season. He averaged 14 points per game this season on good shooting. He would be a good fit for the Clippers in this semi-rebuild, semi-playoff contention phase.
Larry Nance Jr would be a solid building piece as well. He is a big man who could probably jump over 2 Kia Optimas. He would likely compete with Montrezl Harrell for minutes, with the superior player being the long term option for the team.
JR Smith nowadays, is a poor man’s Lou Williams. In his hay day, JR Smith won a 6th Man of the Year award on the New York Knicks. Now he is one of LeBron’s plethora of shooters. His shot has fallen off with age thought. He can easily go 0-10 or 10-10 from 3 point range on any given night. It’s rare nowadays, but when he’s hot, no one stops the Henny Master.
