The Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly agreed on a three-year deal with guard C.J. Williams.
The Los Angeles Clippers have reportedly agreed on a three-year deal with guard C.J. Williams. Williams contract will now convert from the two-way deal, to a true NBA contract.
Williams has been part of a group of G-League players who have stepped up for the Clippers this season in the midst of injuries. He has played 36 games with the team, starting 16 of them.
Through his 36 games with the team, Williams scored 5.3 points per game. He’s added in an assist per game, along with 1.4 rebounds.
His breakout game came against the Memphis Grizzlies, when he scored 18 points on 70% shooting from the field. He also hit a game winning three-pointer against the Atlanta Hawks.
C.J. Williams is 28 years old, so improvements in his game going forward may be incremental. However, the Clippers are aware of what they are getting in C.J. He can provide shooting in spurts and seems to be a very smart player.
Jeff Van Gundy of ESPN has raved about C.J. during several Clippers’ broadcasts on the network. Van Gundy coached Williams in the 2017 AmeriCup basketball tournament, in which the team won the gold medal.
With C.J. now under contract, the team will likely turn their attention to Tyrone Wallace, who also shined during his two-way contract. Wallace is younger and has a high ceiling, but the two sides have not yet been able to come to terms on a deal. Keep checking back here at Clipperholics as we keep an eye on the situation.
