DeAndre Jordan, the Los Angeles Clippers’ longest-tenured player, recently told Yahoo’s Michael Lee that hopes he can stay in LA for another 10 years.
It’s been an eventful year for the Los Angeles Clippers, to say the least.
It all started when Chris Paul was traded to the Houston Rockets. Actually, no. It started when the Clippers brought on Jerry West as a consultant. THEN they traded Paul, and that’s when it all started going down.
It wasn’t soon after that Blake Griffin signed a max deal with Los Angeles, becoming a bonafide “Clipper for life”.
Or so we thought.
Griffin was moved to Detroit in a move that sent shockwaves throughout Clipper Nation. It’s fair to say that a good-sized chunk of the fanbase was still there purely for Griffin, so when he was dealt away, lots of fans were, too.
Most have stuck around though, even with the DeAndre Jordan drama that ensued just before the trade deadline. Fans were certain that Jordan wold be traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and when news broke that he’d be staying in Los Angeles, a brief period of confusion enshrouded us all.
What would become of Jordan? Would he re-sign at the end of the season, assuming he opted out of his contract? Would he fall behind in the rotation? Did he even want to be with the Clippers?
A lot of those answers are still unknown, but now at least one thing is for sure: DJ wants to be a Clipper. And for a long time, too.
In a recent interview with Yahoo! Sports’ Michael Lee, Jordan stated the following:
"“I’m excited. Like I told somebody the other day, I hope I can play another 10 years here. That’s what I’m focused on now.”"
This is certainly a great sign for Clippers fans who were hoping Jordan remained with the team. It appears that, despite being the only remaining member of the Lob City Clippers, Jordan is still content with being in Los Angeles. It’s his home.
We can’t speculate on what this means for the rest of the roster, or Jordan’s future. Even though he hopes to remain with the Clippers, there’s no telling what the front office might decide to do with him this Summer. It all depends on their current situation and the direction of the franchise.
For now, though, we can rest easy. The first part of the equation is filled in.
