With the All-Star break behind us, we give mid-season grades to the Los Angeles Clippers’ players. First up is Lou Williams.
The Los Angeles Clippers quickly worked toward an extension for Lou Williams instead of trading him during the off-season and that was the right move to make moving forward.
Lou Williams has been the “Max Attack button” for the LA Clippers in the first half of the season. Williams has also been durable this season, which cannot be stressed enough. The Clippers have instant offense off the bench and to close out games in Williams. He has scored 30 or more points in 11 games, and the Clippers locked him in with a three-year extension worth up to 24 million.
Williams quickly became a fan favorite among the Clipper faithful and continues to impact the Clippers on the offensive end. He is far away from being a perfect player, but at this moment in his career he could easily be the third option on a championship team.
While he might struggle as a defender, he will make up for it on the other end most nights. He scored 50 against a Warriors’ team as the team took a dub in the Bay.
The Clippers gain flexibility with moving longer bloated contracts, but they kept their golden goose in Williams. Moving forward, Williams just has to play to win each game, which is the same thing he was doing before the break.
