The LA Clippers high-scoring sixth man Lou Williams will participate in the 2018 All-Star Skills Challenge during All-Star weekend at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
Well at least the Clippers will have some representation during All-Star weekend. Coming off the heels of a fantastic 40 point, 10 assist performance, it was announced that LA Clippers guard Lou Williams will compete in the All-Stars Skills Challenge, according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes.
Williams, who is in the midst of his best season as a pro, was controversially left off of the 2018 All-Star Roster. While the Skills Challenge is certainly a step down from the All-Star game, it’s good to see that the Clippers will have someone from the franchise representing them in their hometown.
Sweet Lou could still conceivably be named to the All-Star team. Pelicans center and All-Star starter DeMarcus Cousins is now out for the season with an awful torn Achilles injury. Cousins’ replacement on Team LeBron will be selected by NBA commissioner Adam Silver. While Cousins was selected as a frontcourt player, his replacement does not have to be also. This means that Lou Williams can still be named an All-Star, despite the unfortunate circumstances.
The Clippers star sixth man is averaging career highs in points (23.6), assists (5.2), 3pt% (40.0), and minutes (23.6). LA is currently sitting at 24-24, just one game outside the current playoff picture. The injury-riddled Clippers have to credit Williams as a major reason for keeping their playoff hopes alive.
Lou Will should have a solid shot of winning the competition, which consists of dribbling, passing and shooting. All things that the Clippers scoring dynamo excels at. Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis won the event in 2017.
The 2018 Taco Bell Skills Challenge takes place Saturday, February 16 at 5 p.m. PT at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
