Tyrone Wallace goes for career-high 22 points in his third NBA game
In just his third NBA appearance, G-League product Tyrone Wallace went off for a career-high 22 points against the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday.
Last night, the LA Clippers went into Oracle Arena and beat up on the Golden State Warriors, a team which they have not defeated since the 2014-2015 season. The team’s offensive charge wasn’t led by Blake Griffin and company, though.
In a performance completely overshadowed by Lou Williams‘ 50-point night, Tyrone Wallace flew under the radar and dropped a career-high 22 points himself.
It was Wallace’s third NBA game of his career, and second against Golden State. Wallace was previously a standout for LA’s G-League affiliate, the Agua Caliente Clippers. In 23 games with ACC, Wallace has averaged 22.8 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.4 assists. Last night, he recorded 22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals.
Yes, Wallace’s big game came against a depleted Warriors backcourt, but the competition in the NBA is certainly a higher echelon.
The Clippers have had excellent luck with their two-way players so far this season. Jamil Wilson had an excellent period in LA, scoring a career-high 17 points in his final game with the team. C.J. Williams hit the game-winning three against the Atlanta Hawks on Monday night. Now, Wallace is showing the defending champions how to play ball.
It’s a nice change of pace for Clippers fans, who haven’t seen much rookie play at all since Doc Rivers took over as general manager and head coach. However, ever since he had his GM title revoked, Rivers has turned a new leaf. He’s become the coach everyone expected he would be in LA, and he has a legit shot at Coach of the Year. We may be in the midst of his best season to date.
Wallace seems comfortable in his new role with the team, and fans should look forward to more stellar performances from him.
