Brice Johnson and Jawun Evans will both play with the Agua Caliente Clippers in their season opener tonight.

The LA Clippers have announced that both Brice Johnson and Jawun Evans will play in the Agua Caliente Clippers‘ G-League season opener tonight against they face off against the Santa Cruz Warriors.

The Agua Caliente Clippers will begin their inaugural season tonight, so perhaps the team wants to guarantee a win and showcase some talent by putting fringe NBA caliber players on the court.

Both Brice Johnson and Jawun Evans have only appeared during garbage time for the LA Clippers this season, so the move isn’t surprising. Jawun still has a lot of room to grow, so this is no surprise. He’ll be able to get a lot of run in the G-League and can still come back up to play spot minutes as needed.

Brice Johnson, however, is a more concerning case. After news broke this week that the LA Clippers would not exercise his team-option, things aren’t looking good for the young forward. Johnson did have a solid outing during Summer League, but he has not been able to get on the court this season after missing most of last year with a back injury. He has been buried behind the Clippers new depth of Willie Reed, Montrezl Harrell, Wesley Johnson and Sam Dekker.

Perhaps the trip to the G-League can help him out. Even though the Clippers didn’t extend him, he could use the time to hone his skills and showcase his talent for not only the Clips, but other teams around the league.
