A few weeks ago, Kobe Bryant issued “Mamba Challenges” to various public personalities. Our staff felt the need to issue our own challenges to each LA Clippers player. Next up is Lou Williams.

The LA Clippers’ new bench scorer is probably one of the more famous players that the team acquired this season. After a great season last year for both the Lakers and Rockets, Lou Williams should be a very impactful player on the Clips. His Mamba Challenge is simple.

The Challenge

Lou Williams needs to go out and win Sixth Man of the Year. It’s that easy. He finished in second last season to then teammate and former Clipper, Eric Gordon. This year, he’ll be the best pure scoring guard on the roster, unquestionably. He needs to capitalize on this. He’ll have some familiarity with Montrezl Harrell, Sam Dekker and Patrick Beverley, so him getting into his rhythm shouldn’t take long. Lou should be able to be ready to check in at any time and provide some scoring.

If there’s one thing Doc Rivers did over the past few seasons, it was rely on Jamal Crawford. Although he may have leaned on him too much, Doc realized that Jamal could change a game if he got hot. It’s likely that he will do the same with Lou.

Next: Mamba Mentality: DeAndre Jordan

Lou has won the award in the past, as a member of the Toronto Raptors. He managed to win that award while scoring 15.5 points per game. Last season, Lou managed to pour in 17.5 ppg, but it was inflated by his 18.6 points while a member of the Lakers. With the Rockets, he only put up 14.9 ppg. Lou will just need to stay in the 15 to 16 point range to have a solid shot at the award.

Lou can definitely win the award, but he will have to work hard when he does get minutes. With defenses focusing on Blake Griffin and Danilo Gallinari, he should be able to get the open looks he needs.
