Report: Sindarius Thornwell to Sign Three-Year Deal with Clippers
By Noah Shatzer
Sindarius Thornwell, the LA Clippers’ 2017 second round draft pick, is expected to sign a three-year contract with the team when he returns from South Carolina.
The State, a newspaper based in South Carolina, caught up with Thornwell this weekend as the rookie returned to South Carolina for the S.C. Pro-Am, a summer league he starred in when he was in college. The paper’s article also confirmed that SIndarius Thornwell has a deal pending with the LA Clippers and the wing player will be signing it when he returns to Los Angeles.
"Thornwell is back in the state for a short period before returning to his first real job, which will be suiting up for the Los Angeles Clippers. Thornwell confirmed he has a three-year contract waiting on him in L.A., and he’ll sign it once he gets back."
Thornwell would be the fourteenth player signed by the Clippers for the upcoming season and add depth to a Clippers roster that is easily deeper than the past few seasons. Since the contract is a three-year deal, the possibility of Thornwell receiving the Clippers’ other two-way contact is ruled out since two-way contracts can only be one or two-year deals.

In his four Las Vegas Summer League games with the Clippers, Thornwell put up averages of 14.3 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.8 steals while shooting 38 percent from the floor. The rookie has plenty of work to do to become a rotation player but learning from two of the better guard/wing defenders in the league, Austin Rivers and Patrick Beverley, should help him adjust to the NBA game.
With the depth that the Clippers have, Thornwell will have to prove himself to Doc Rivers in order to gain rotation minutes but will realistically spend much of his time with the Agua Caliente Clippers of the G-League.
With both of their 2017 draftees signed, the Clippers will now look to fill their last remaining roster spot for the upcoming season.
