During the LA Clippers press conference today, Blake Griffin talked about his decision to return to the team and announced he could be back before you know it.
Earlier today, the LA Clippers hosted a press conference that served to announce Blake Griffin‘s official return. Common themes included loyalty, the future, and new direction. Perhaps the biggest news, however, was about Blake’s return to the court.
This is obviously huge news, as earlier projections slated Griffin’s return for sometime in December. Griffin mentioned that he had seen five foot specialists and that a return during training camp is “realistic”.
Now, the Clippers will have a chance to have Griffin active for an entire season. They will also be able to see his full potential, as he is no longer under the reigns of Chris Paul. Griffin wanted to make it clear, however, that this isn’t just “his team”.
“That’s never really been a concern of mine,” Griffin said. “My biggest concern was being prepared every summer, going into the season in shape, being on the same page with my teammates, and trying to help us win games being a leader for us. Within the team, I don’t think I’ve ever heard a guy say ‘hey man, who’s team do you think this is?'”
Griffin is the face of the LA Clippers, and has built up a lot of reputation and accolades as so. He was a #1 overall pick, and has fared much better than former Clipper Michael Olowokandi did after he was selected with the same pick in 1998. LA never had a 50-win season until Griffin was on the roster. Now, the hopes are that Griffin will take them further than any player has before, into the Western Conference Finals and the NBA Finals.
