The small forward free agent has garnered a large amount of attention around the league and will meet with the LA Clippers.
Per TNT’s David Aldridge, the LA Clippers will be meeting with free agent wing Danilo Gallinari Sunday night in LA. Gallinari is one of the few remaining names on the initial list of free agents that the Clippers planned on pursuing at the start of free agency since PJ Tucker, Joe Ingles, and Andre Iguodala re-signed to their respective teams.
Sam Amick of USA Today Sports reported on Friday that there were nine teams around the league that have interest in signing the Italian small forward, including some contenders. The Nuggets and Kings are two of the teams named in the tweet with the Clippers being a third. It has also been reported that the Celtics have been in contact with Gallinari as a backup plan if they fail to lure Gordon Hayward to Boston.
Gallinari would bring a high level of offensive production at the small forward position that the Clippers have sought after during Doc River’s tenure in LA. While the eight-year veteran has had health issues in the past and isn’t known as the greatest defender, Gallo would be an upgrade over any of the wings the Clippers have had in the past few seasons and could help the team in the next few years.
