Lost in all the talks of the Chris Paul move to Houston is an update on Blake Griffin. The LA Clippers’ free agent could be out until December.
LA Clippers’ free agent Blake Griffin could miss more time with his toe injury. According to Michael Eaves of ESPN,
"Griffin may not be ready for the start of the next season and could possibly be out until December due to a toe injury that cut short his postseason.A separate source told Shelburne the team believes Griffin’s toe will be healed and he’ll likely be ready for the start of the season."
Griffin injured his toe in the first round playoff series against the Utah Jazz. He had already missed a chunk of the season due to preventative surgery on his quad.
This may end up being a big factor in Griffin’s free agency. The forward has often had injury problems and will reportedly be seeking a max deal. The Clippers still believe in his potential and also offer the benefit of being able to give him the most money. Teams looking at Griffin, such as the Boston Celtics, may take a second look if his injury really will keep him out.
Blake has informed the team that he will opt out of the final year of his contract, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent. Although Griffin does have an extensive injury history, the LA Clippers seem to believe he is still worth the max. With Chris Paul now out of the picture, it’s expected that the team will make a full effort to keep Griffin in Los Angeles.
