Speculation: LA Clippers Have Special Announcement Today

The official LA Clippers social media outlets have all hinted at a special announcement happening today at 2:00 PST. What could it be about?

This time of year always proves to be the most suspenseful and eventful. It’s the time when players formally announce intentions, signings are rumored, and teams pick new young stars to add to their roster. And in Clipperland, we’ve had no shortage of recent news regarding our LA Clippers. Surely, today’s event must be the official announcement about Jerry West, right?

Most signs would point to yes, as this appears to be a positive announcement. However, what if there’s more news that simply hasn’t broken ground yet, and we’re going to hear it today? After putting some thought into it and discussing it with fellow Clipperholics writers, I’ve come up with a few things that I hope become a reality today.

For starters, this announcement could very well be the formal statement about the Inglewood stadium. Not only could they announce an exact location, but we may also be given the name of the venue. The LA Clippers have only ever played in the LA Sports Arena and Staples Center, so an official new name/arena announcement would be earth-shattering. The likelihood of a name announcement doesn’t seem too high, but hey, fingers crossed.

The second thing that came to mind was something about either Chris Paul or Blake Griffin. The pair are both set to become free agents this summer, and there have been all sorts of rumors about their futures. Perhaps the team announces that they both plan to re-sign in LA?
