The LA Clippers’ DeAndre Jordan was voted onto the 2017 All-NBA 3rd Team.
LA Clippers’ center DeAndre Jordan has been voted onto the All-NBA 3rd Team. This is not DJ’s first time receiving All-NBA honors. He was a 3rd teamer in 2015 and 1st team in 2016. This award adds to 2x All-Defensive player, Olympic gold medal winning NBA All-Star DeAndre Jordan’s impressive resume.
Here are the full voting results:
With Chris Paul being snubbed and Blake Griffin held back by injuries, DeAndre is the only Clippers’ player voted onto a team. This is eerily similar to this year’s All-Star reserve results, where Chris Paul was left off of the team, leaving DJ as the sole Clippers’ representative.
The ascension of big men like Kristaps Porzingis, Nikola Jokic and Karl-Anthony Towns may make winning awards like this harder for DJ in the future. And many would argue that one of these players deserved the nod over him. However, DJ was deserving of his spot among the elite players in the league.
Well Deserved
This past season, DeAndre has averaged 12.7 points per game, 13.8 rebounds per game (2nd best in the league), 1.7 blocks per game, and led the league in field goal percentage at .714.
DJ has proven time and time again that he is the anchor and backbone of the Clippers. The extremely reliable “iron man” has always been an important part of this team. And with the help of coach Doc Rivers, DeAndre has elevated his game tremendously and established himself as one of the best centers in the league.
Further, this award rounds out DJ’s amazing year that began with last summer’s Olympics. Despite the shortcomings of the Clippers, he has managed to keep his game on an upward trend.
Next: Why Doc Rivers is crucial to the Clippers
It’s unfortunate that the LA Clippers’ big three have never all won an award together. And with an interesting summer ahed of them, this may have been their last chance. Nonetheless, we can be sure that this isn’t the last of DeAndre’s awards.
