As the LA Clippers head into their upcoming series with the Utah Jazz, we take a look at how (Prince) Luc Mbah a Moute will contribute.

If there was an NBA award for most unlikely hero, Luc Mbah a Moute would be the favorite to win it. When he joined the Clippers last season, few saw him as anything other than a roster filler. However, he quickly became a starter because of his stellar defensive ability and outside shooting. Although he’s never more than a 4th or 5th option among the LA starters, he does more than he gets credit for on the offensive end.

Despite his low number of attempts per game, he’s been able to stay efficient. In 22.2 minutes per game, Mbah a Moute has shot 50% from the field, as well as 38% from deep. And although he scores a measly 5.9 points per game, he is a very capable scorer and has had many outbursts this season, including a 15-point performance in 23 minutes against the Houston Rockets on Monday night. He does exactly what he is supposed to do, making him the ideal role player among the Clippers starters. Oh, and did I mention that he is an All-Star whistler?

It’s not a complete stretch to say that Mbah a Moute is a legit Defensive Player of the Year candidate, either.
