After UNC’s National Championship victory, the LA Clippers’ J.J. Redick voiced his opinion on paying college athletes for their services.

If you are like most people, you probably watched some of the NCAA March Madness Tournament. J.J. Redick tuned in just like everyone else and when UNC defeated Gonzaga, he tweeted his congratulations to UNC, a big thing being that he is a former Duke Blue Devil.

Congratulations weren’t the on thing J.J. tweeted though. He also added a controversial statement. Check it out:

I’m sure that you are aware that this is a touchy subject, so it’s surprising to see Redick just come out and say it right after the game. He has touched on it in the past with Jay Bilas, as part of his podcast. However, last night, J.J. Redick wasn’t the only one.. Former Grizzlies player, DJ Stephens chimed in on the subject as well.

If you’re against players earning more than a scholarship these tweets, don’t help you at all. They bring to light the amount of money universities make off of student athletes every year. Not to mention the bonuses and such handed out for making the March Madness Tournament as pointed out by Tim Reynolds.

Whichever side of the argument you are on, it’s all but guaranteed to be a hot topic in the coming weeks. We are sure to get more hot takes from NBA players as they express their views and reactions on the subject as well.
