LA Clippers’ Blake Griffin teams up with a Children’s Hospital LA patient to create the best shoe ever.
Everyone knows that Blake is a modern day Renaissance man. NBA player, actor, comedian, writer, producer, father, the list goes on. But while he’s not filming commercials, dribbling a basketball, or off making money doing something else, Blake is wearing his philanthropist hat.
Recently, Blake teamed up with Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for their #MakeMarchMatter campaign to auction off a pair of his Super.Fly 5 shoe. Eleven year old leukemia patient at CHLA, Justice Griffith, collaborated with Blake to design a special colorway of his Jordan brand shoe. The pair of shoes will be worn by Blake on March 29th, 2017 against the Washington Wizards. The shoes, dark red with black designs, were named Justice “Just 5”.
“We had to put a few parameters on it, but for how young he is, he knew exactly what he wanted,” he said about Justice in a recent interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols. Blake admired the kid’s decisiveness when it came to calling the shots for the shoe.
Probably more decisive than Blake usually is on the basketball court, one can imagine.
While being somewhat intimidating on the court, Blake is just the opposite off the court. He certainly has a soft spot for children, so this project was perfect for him. Not only was this a once in a lifetime opportunity for Justice, but for Blake was well.
“ spirit was unbelievable and that’s the thing that you always find when you get to have interactions with kids like these.”
