The Miami Heat are shorthanded on Monday night against a surging Los Angeles Clippers team that has won eight of its last 10 contests.

Jimmy Butler is listed as out for Miami while several other rotation players are either doubtful or questionable for Monday’s game. Kawhi Leonard is questionable for the Clippers.

Los Angeles is looking like one of the best teams in the NBA right now, but can it cover a hefty spread against a scrappy Miami team?

Heat vs. Clippers key players to watch

Miami Heat

Jaime Jaquez Jr.: With Butler out, keep an eye on Miami’s first-round pick, Jaime Jaquez Jr. to have a big game (he had 31 on Christmas Day against Philly). Jaquez is averaging 13.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game for Miami – taking on an expanded role when one of its stars is out.

Los Angeles Clippers

Paul George: With Leonard listed as questionable, George could be in line for a major role against the Heat. The All-Star wing is averaging 22.9 points per game this season while shooting 45.0 percent from the field and 39.9 percent from beyond the arc.

Heat vs. Clippers prediction and pick

This is a matchup of dueling trends, as the Heat are 7-3 against the spread as road dogs, but the Clippers are 9-7 ATS as home favorites.

However, with so many key wings (Butler, Highsmith, Martin) looking unlikely to play for Miami, I question how the team defends this Clippers team.

The Clips have a ton of scoring up and down the roster, and they have the bodies to throw at Tyler Herro to make his life tougher with Butler out.

Miami has gone 5-3 without Butler this season, but the team was .500 in the 18 games he missed in the 2022-23 campaign.

I question Miami’s depth getting things done on the road here, especially if Leonard plays.
