As the LA Clippers’ postseason hopes took a turn of disappointment, the front office may be looking to move on to a better future. This is primarily because the Clippers have been trying to make history for years, yet the West Conference Finals is the furthest they could get.

While head coach Tyronn Lue did make a deep run in 2021, the ultimate goal is to win the title, and injuries have plagued the Clippers from doing so. In particular, Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have proven that their age is catching up to them. This leaves the front office with no choice but to move on sooner than later.

Furthermore, George and Leonard are still in the midst of their primes, despite their inability to stay healthy. These two are arguably the best two-way stars in the league when they are at their peak.

However, first up on the trade block may be George, as he has come up short in back-to-back seasons. On the flip side, multiple playoff-level teams would be willing to trade their young core for a star of George’s caliber. This is parallel to what the Clippers are looking for in return.

That said, one of those teams is the New York Knicks. Following their recent playoff run, they showed the rest of the league what they are capable of. They could easily compete to win the Eastern Conference with an elite two-way talent in their lineup. Additionally, they have the young talent and draft compensation to meet the needs of the LA Clippers.

Paul George to NYC for a promising young core

One of the only ways the LA Clippers would trade Paul George is if they received a promising future in return. Through this trade with the Knicks, LA will have multiple building blocks and a proven veteran who has been searching for a home.

Furthermore, the first and most important player the LA Clippers will receive is the former third-overall pick, RJ Barrett. As he is only 22 years old and brings no health concerns, Barrett is the ideal franchise piece for a city like Los Angeles.

Although his efficiency may raise concerns, those issues can be solved by head coach Tyronn Lue and his staff. On the bright side, Barrett is exceptional around the rim and has the potential to become an elite defensive player. It is just a matter of time and proper development before the Duke product propels to the top of the league.

The second player in this trade is the late first-round draft pick, Quentin Grimes. Not only is he the most valuable player in this package, but his two-way potential is through the roof. Throughout his sophomore year, he proved himself by averaging 11.3 points and 3.2 rebounds with a true shooting percentage of 61.9. Additionally, he was widely regarded as the best defender on the Knicks with his quick feet and active hands.

The final piece of this blockbuster package is Evan Fournier, a player who would thrive under Lue’s coaching. He is clearly looking for a fresh start, and a trade to LA is exactly what he needs. Fournier would be perfect off the bench next to Norman Powell, as these two could compete for the Sixth Man of the Year award.

In addition, the LA Clippers would receive multiple draft picks in return.

Why this trade is a win-win for the LA Clippers and New York Knicks

If this trade package goes through, the LA Clippers and New York Knicks will find themselves with precisely what they are looking for. In the Clippers’ case, it is evident that they are on the verge of losing their championship window. Injuries are not in their favor, and the overall roster is only getting older. However, the Knicks have an extremely talented foundation and are one superstar talent away from winning the Eastern Conference.

Moreover, a player like Paul George would embrace the bright lights and dominate in the city of New York. In addition, he would have little pressure to score the ball as Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle are two all-star caliber players. If that weren’t enough, he would have one of the best-supporting casts in the league with guys like Josh Hart and Immanuel Quickley.

Conversely, the Clippers landed two of the most underrated rising stars in the NBA. The best start is to begin the rebuild with RJ Barrett and Quentin Grimes. This duo, along with young studs Terance Mann and Bones Hyland, would revive the future of the LA Clippers.

Not to mention the LA Clippers will also have a score-first wing in Evan Fournier. This established veteran can instantly provide a spark off the bench while mentoring the team’s youth.

That said, another aspect that should not go overlooked is how the Clippers’ front office would still have Kawhi Leonard. Assuming they commit to a complete rebuild, Leonard’s value would bring a hefty return. This puts the future of LA in great hands.
