LA Clippers GOTE 2017-Now: Kawhi Leonard
He’s only been with the team for one full year, but it’s hard to justify anybody being the greatest of this most recent era than Kawhi Leonard.
When Kawhi joined the team, it was the first time since McAdoo that the Clippers had a guy who could be reasonably called the best player in the league, even if it wasn’t a unanimous opinion.
When Kawhi signed with the team and pushed for the Paul George trade, the Clippers instantly went to the top of the list and were one of the championship favorites. Even though it didn’t work out for them this year, the future is bright for the Clippers with Kawhi on the team.
We all know what Kawhi is able to do. He can get to any spot on the court. He has a killer high post game and a nearly unstoppable midrange shot. When he’s locked in on defense, he’s destructive. Despite the unfortunate playoffs ending, he’s the kind of guy who can lead you to the promised land, and I think he will.
Honorable mention is going to be left open for this current era. Ask me again in a year and it’s probably easily Paul George, but I’m still too in love with the 2018-19 Clippers to make any rational call here. So let’s split it between Paul George and Tobias Harris and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Landry Shamet and Boban Marjanovic and Danilo Gallinari and Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell and just call it there.
