1. Tyronn Lue
Ty Lue seems like the obvious choice, doesn’t he? He has been with the team already, he has a championship to his name, and he’s arguably the most sought after coaching candidate in the league currently.
Luckily for the Clippers, they have the inside track. Ty knows how well this front office works and already has a rapport built with the players. The team knows what they can expect out of him, which will make the interview process even easier.
Lue also has dealt with a high profile job in the past, coaching LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Having that experience, especially with this LA Clippers’ team, is key. Steve Ballmer needs someone he can trust to not only handle the X’s and O’s but someone who can handle egos in the locker room while also dealing with the media.
Sure, some will chalk up Lue’s lone title to just having LeBron on his team but he has shown that he is capable of leading a team.
The LA Clippers will have to take their time and evaluate each candidate carefully. With both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George only having 1 remaining year on their deals, next season must have a positive result even if it’s not a championship. That all starts with this decision.
