Salary in 2019-20

Rapp: To that point, Leo, let me bring up some numbers.

Let’s look at the Clippers’ payroll status as it stands now for 2019-2020.

  • Gallo: $22.6 million
  • Lou Will: $8 million
  • Harrell: $6 million
  • Shai: $3.9 million
  • Rome: $3.5 million
  • Shamet: $1.9 million
  • Thornwell: $1.6 million (not fully guaranteed)
  • Wallace: $1.5 million

Everyone else is expiring.

Chong: Oops, I think I just drooled a little bit. That is beautiful.

Rapp: The value from Lou Will and Harrell alone compensates, because boy howdy.

Chong: Those two contracts are literally highway robbery.

Saldana: Gallo’s is one I wish was closer to 18 million.

Rapp: Right, Gallo’s salary might be a little steep, but none of these players are making stupid money.

Kimbrell: Would like to say that’s an average age of less than 25.

Saldana: Yeah but I’m talking more in general, like much respect to Tyler Johnson and Tim Hardaway but those contracts are ones I’m mentioning.

Tooke: The Heat’s contracts are all horrendous.

Saldana: I’m not trying to call out teams, but contracts like those hurt my stomach. If there was no cap, then go ahead and splurge but since there is one then you need to be smart.

Rapp: Let me ask a question: Do we re-sign Patrick Beverley, and if so, for how much?

Kimbrell: Ideally, we get who we want in free agency and re-sign Beverley with the MLE. That’s my dream.

Saldana: 3 years at $21 mil and third year is partially guaranteed. Or player option/team option.

Tooke: That would be lovely.

Chong: I imagine Pat would take the MLE to stick with this team.

Rapp: I agree, Matt. I think Pat Bev is the type of player MLE contracts are made for. I would put Pat Bev at a 2+1, $6 m/year. That’s a 20% increase. Probably player option.

Kimbrell: And he seems like the kinda guy who would appreciate the commitment in years, just as much as money.

Tooke: I’d give him closer to $8-10, honestly.

Saldana: Paul, get out of here with that $10 million, stop drinking. It’s early.

Tooke: Ahaha.

Chong: He’d deserve it. I think you’d just prefer to have that extra cash to put towards other guys to fill out the roster, and I think Pat would understand that.

Rapp: I’d love to give Pat $8m, he deserves it, but cap space is going to be super tight, even with signing Kawhi and retaining Gallo.

Saldana: The MLE matters where we are with the payroll so if we are under the tax we can give the full MLE around $8.5 million right?

Kimbrell: Yeah, I think it’s $8.4 if you’re under the tax apron, like $5.1-ish if you’re over?

Saldana: Gallo has been nice without a doubt but if I can move him I would, because next year is expiring.

Tooke: Another thing is who gets contracts first.

Saldana: Gallo with a draft day trade.

Rapp: It seems pretty clear, Paul, that if Kawhi’s coming to LA, he’s going to be the first signature. No foreplay.

Tooke: I’m all for that. And a draft day trade for Gallo.

Kimbrell: I think so Leo. I think that he’s played well enough that teams will trade an asset for an expiring Gallo.

Tooke: What picks, though?

Saldana: Honestly just getting off the contract with a first and a role player would be fine, likely out of the lottery.

Rapp: I keep having these moments of “man, I worry about what value we get out of Gallo other than cash,” and then I remember how the Clippers pickpocketed the Lakers for Zubac and stop worrying so much.

Saldana: Lakers might want him lol, I laughed out loud too.
