Now that Kawhi Leonard has won a title in Toronto, attention has shifted to his free agency status. Here are three reasons why he’ll join the LA Clippers.

It’s been a very long and very eventful NBA season, and it’s finally come to a close with Kawhi Leonard leading the Toronto Raptors to their first-ever NBA Finals victory. Could he do the same with the LA Clippers next season?

This summer has the potential to be the biggest in Clippers franchise history, and because of that, it should also be considered the most important. It’s hard to remember the last time LA had a legitimate chance to land two, let alone one max-level player in free agency, if they ever did. And while it shouldn’t necessarily be considered a likely scenario that the Clippers pull off that feat this summer, they have enough of a shot to make us feel confident about the coming weeks.

It’s no secret that the Clippers have interest in Leonard — this has been known virtually all season long. We also know that, at least in the past, Leonard has had interest in the Clippers as well. A Riverside, California native, the Clippers could provide him an opportunity that only them and the Los Angeles Lakers could offer: A chance to play for his hometown team.

It’s also impossible to know what Leonard will do this summer before he does it. He’s far from being the most vocal athlete, and when he is asked about his free agency plans, he’s never specific. Even after his Finals-clinching win on Friday night, he still remained noncommittal about his future.

If Leonard does end up choosing the Clippers in free agency, he’ll find a team that wants to win and is willing to work as hard as he does in order to do so. The culture that’s been established over the last few years already seems suitable to his taste — now all the Clippers need to do is reel him in.

Before we get ahead of ourselves on this slide, here are three reasons why we believe Leonard will join the Clippers this summer.
