J.J. Redick took to his podcast to thank the LA Clippers and to discuss his decision to join the Philadelphia 76ers.

J.J. Redick signed a one-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers reportedly worth $23 million during free agency, ending his time with the LA Clippers. Clipper Nation hadn’t heard from Redick regarding his decision until the release of his newly re-named podcast, The Chronicles of Redick. J.J. thanked the Clippers’ organization, players and fans for what he describes as the highlight of his career thus far.

"“…I’m coming off basically the four best years of my career and I wanted to thank all of the LA Clippers fans, Doc, Steve, the entire staff and of course my teammates. The relationships I’ve built over the last four years have been absolutely incredible and I’ve literally made lifelong friends in LA.”"

Redick addressed the rumblings among certain Clippers fans that he was disloyal. J.J. cited the amount of money that was (at the time) tied up in Jamal Crawford and Austin Rivers’ contracts. This represented a primary reason that staying a Clipper was not feasible for him and his young family.

Redick and guest Maverick Carter discussed free agency and touched on the perception that the Clippers weren’t enjoying playing together. Redick acknowledged this but did not go in to detail. Perhaps this related to the dynamic of a Chris Paul-led team. J.J. mentioned, however, that reuniting in Houston was an option. More likely it was tied to the repeated post-season disappointments, although this is pure speculation.

Looking back

Redick appears to be at peace with his decision. He mentioned multiple times that he does not have any regrets or issues with Clippers players or staff. Over J.J.’s four years with the Clippers, he shot 44% on long balls, nearly 90% from the line and averaged 15.8 points per game. He is currently a top-20 3 point shooter among active players.

J.J. Redick was an invaluable member of the Clippers organization during his time in LA. He will be remembered fondly as we look back on the most successful run in Clippers history. His class in leaving the organisation in a dignified and respectful fashion is important to note. A film documenting J.J.’s free agency process was discussed by Redick and Carter, to be released by Uninterrupted. It is sure to be of interest to LA Clippers fans.
