The veteran point guard is expected to opt out of his contract on July 1st and become an unrestricted free agent. He met with the LA Clippers today.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski, Chris Paul and his agents met with LA Clippers officials today to discuss the point guard’s future/upcoming free agency and the two sides plan to talk again soon. Last week Paul informed the team that he plans to opt out of his the final year of his contract on July 1st and test free agency. Paul opting out of his last year with the Clippers has made LA fans nervous but Paul’s opting out doesn’t rule out a return to the Clippers. By opting out of his final year, Paul is eligible for a 5 year, 205 million dollar extension that only the Clippers can offer him which would keep him in LA until he reaches 37 years of age.

Bill Oram, the Clippers reporter for So Cal News Group, confirmed the report on Twitter and added that keeping Paul on the Clippers is the first piece to the team’s offseason puzzle.
