With the regular season winding down, rumors of Blake Griffin leaving in free agency have started to crop up

Well. Here we are again. Another approach to the end of the season, another rumor that Blake Griffin is heading for open waters. This time, the report comes from Bleacher Report’s Kevin Ding:

"Griffin would also stay and reap the biggest payday he can seems likely too…in theory. But more and more people around the league believe he would be open to a fresh start. Perhaps with the Lakers or the Boston Celtics, who have coveted Griffin for years and would offer a new chance to win."

But…there are a few of things wrong with this statement from Kevin Ding. For starters, Kevin Ding has been one of the…lesser reliable sources in the media, to put it nicely. Second and more importantly, Basketball Insiders reported late last August that sources close to Griffin have been confident that he is not interested in leaving.

In fact, those same reports also indicate that Griffin and Chris Paul both plan to re-sign with LAC regardless of how the season ends. Doc Rivers is fully confident that both stars will sign in July, no matter the outcome of the season. Just a couple weeks ago, the Clips and Paul verbally agreed to a monster deal that is reported to be “north of $200 million.”

SPECULATION: Should the Clippers move on from Chris Paul?

My personal opinion, which most of you probably don’t care about, is that Griffin isn’t going anywhere. On top of being in the second biggest media market, the Clippers will be able to offer Griffin the largest possible contract. Blake Griffin choosing to walk seems appears to be pure speculation. Blake has unfinished business with the Clippers in LA. Not getting out of the second round with the team he started with will be crucial to his legacy. Whether he signs right away or not, Clipper fans should not worry. I mean, we got DeAndre back, right?
