The LA Clippers and Doc Rivers lost their cool to drop their third game in a row to the Brooklyn Nets 127-122, despite leading by as much as 18.

Chris Paul was 0-6 from deep in the earlier loss to the Indiana Pacers. He made one with less than two seconds left to push the LA Clippers (14-5) to overtime against the Brooklyn Nets (5-12) Tuesday night. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough with the Clippers falling to the Nets 127-122 in double overtime.

Doc Rivers was not to happy with the referees when he wanted a steal and they called a foul. He was hit with a double technical with 18 seconds left in the first overtime. The Clippers were able to push a second overtime period with a Jamal Crawford three.

Sean Kilpatrick scored 31 of his career-high 38 points after the third quarter. Brook Lopez, who did not play the last time these clubs faced off, added 27 points and was 4-of-9 from deep, burying a couple of vital threes late in the fourth quarter. Trevor Booker added 15 points and 11 rebounds. Coming off the bench Joe Harris added 15, providing a spark as the Nets still don’t Jeremy Lin due to a hamstring injury.

The game started with seven quick Clipper points from J.J. Redick, Paul Pierce, and Chris Paul. The lead was 12 by half time and it would go as high as 18 in the third quarter. The Clippers were generally in control of the game throughout the first three quarters, but the Nets hung around all night, right up until Kilpatrick went off in the fourth quarter.

The Clippers missed some crucial free throws toward the end of the first overtime by Luc Mbah A Moute and DeAndre Jordan both missing one of two. Right around the time Doc was ejected from the game because of arguing a call.

More from Clipperholics

Paul’s first triple-double of the season came in this surprising losing effort with 26 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds. Jordan had a 20-20 game with 21 points and 23 rebounds. Redick chipped in 18 points as the Clippers missed Blake Griffin (rest) more than they probably expected to in Brooklyn. Pierce started in Griffin’s spot to add five points in his first start of the year.

The Clippers had the edge in rebounding at 57-53. Both teams shot in the low forties from the floor.

Crawford and Rivers help keep Clippers in it

Austin Rivers provided 15 points for the Clippers, scoring nine straight points in less than a minute in the third quarter. Crawford hit a timely three toward the end of the first overtime to push a second OT.

Notes

Tuesday was the first time since March 23rd, 2011 that the LA Clippers played a double overtime game. Jordan has his 32nd career 20+ rebound game. This was the first game that Griffin has sat out all season, due to rest and some swelling in his left calf.
