To continue their preparation for the 2016 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Clippers will workout 6’3″ guard Isaiah Briscoe of Kentucky.

With the 25th and 33rd overall picks in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Los Angeles Clippers are in a position to land themselves some valuable young prospects. Over the last few years with Doc Rivers as head coach and president of basketball operations, it hasn’t always worked out, though. Even last year’s athletic selection in Branden Dawson only represented the Clippers for 29 total minutes this season, but perhaps two higher picks this year will have a better chance of cracking into the rotation.

Even though it won’t be easy earning minutes on such a talented team with Doc’s trust of his favorite veterans getting in the way, too, the possibility of finding a minimal role due to so many players having the option to leave in free agency is there.

Draft Express have reported the second player that the Clippers will be working out this week along with Malik Pope: 6’3″ guard Isaiah Briscoe of Kentucky.

After completing his first year in college in 2015-16, Briscoe’s 32.2 minutes per game (9th in the SEC conference) have given him some good experience for a freshman. And while his per game averages of 9.6 points, 3.1 assists and one steal don’t exactly jump off the page, he grabbed an impressive 5.3 rebounds a night and has some excellent physical attributes with a 37 inch vertical and 6’9″ wingspan.

Those physical attributes and his strong, 202 lbs frame help him to succeed when attacking the basket, which gives him the bulk of his scoring as he thrives when finishing through contact in the lane. And thanks to his lower body strength, he has the ability to improve as a solid post-up player against smaller guards, using that power to create positioning and turn with a decent stroke from mid-range.

At the other end of the floor, Briscoe could become a great on-ball defender with his length, quickness and intensity, especially if he can continue to stay in good shape after losing weight prior to college.

One glaring concern for Briscoe as a hopeful NBA point guard is his lack of a three-point shot. Making a mere five threes all season at a 13.5 percent rate isn’t something any team wants to see, and his limited offensive game has helped lead to his low PER of 12.3.

Nevertheless, Briscoe has some talent and physical ability, and is certainly a change of pace from the highly athletic, 6’10”, combo forward Malik Pope that the Clippers are also set to workout this weekend.

Next: Do the Clippers need a new backup point guard?

Like every other team, the Clippers will be working out a host of players from multiple positions as they prepare for the 2016 NBA draft, especially as they have two solid picks. From forwards like Pope who can play at the four and stretch an opposing defense, to guards like Briscoe who may contribute at the end of the backcourt rotation and develop in the D-League, the Clippers have a chance to stockpile some young talent for the future and address multiple areas of the roster.
